About Kangaroo Manor The House & The Property

First built in 1984 by author and advocate of mind-body medicine Dr Ian Gawler OAM as a healing retreat, before Louise Mahler and her family purchased the property in 1998.

The architecturally designed house was lovingly restored with lots of hard work and dedication to create the stunning house and property you see today. The golden-brown timber that predominantly features throughout the interior is from the mountain ash that was cleared to build the house. The remaining panels are pine, with a stunning copper roof and clad in beautiful sandstone.

The property is 40 acres and set in the Little Yarra Valley offshoot of the Upper Yarra Valley. The house is located on a high island of the valley with views that stun. We have approximately 700 metres of Little Yarra River frontage with several acres of rain-forest (wet sclerophyll). There is also a pine forest and walks everywhere. We even have an old gold mine!

The property is a full time BnB and venue for boutique weddings and events. Luxuriate in isolated paradise and an Australian experience beyond your wildest dreams. Kangaroo Manor is the perfect setting for your getaway or your special event.

The House & Interiors

The stunning architecturally designed house is completely isolated, it is a hexagon in shape with glass walls and a cellar. The house offers you the following:

Bedrooms

The house has four large bedrooms each has a queen size bed.  The master bedroom looks out over the valley and is truly a beauty to behold. The other bedrooms all have a garden views.

Kitchen

A luxuriously appointed kitchen with everything you will need for your stay. With Miele appliances for oven and cooktop, glasses, crockery, coffee machine, a well-stocked pantry for the basics and more…

Heating & Cooling

The house is fully centrally heated, and has fans in every room for the warmer months.  There is also a lovely open fireplace to cosy up to in the cooler months. Wood is supplied.

The Pool

Our pool is amazing and huge. It is nearly 25 metres long and 10 feet deep, at the deep end. The deck around the pool is expansive so there is plenty of room for entertaining during your stay outside of your wedding day celebrations.

Lounge & Dining Areas

The cosy lounge has a beautiful wood burning fire which is lovely in the cooler months.  Comfortable leather lounges to relax and unwind at your leisure. Stunning views and a large deck outside the lounge area.

The Dining Room has a large wooden table that seats 8, it’s surrounded by the soaring high ceilings, light filled windows and chandelier for inside dining during your stay.

The Bathrooms

Main bathroom is large with a spa and double vanities and lovely garden and bush views.

Ensuite bathroom to the master bedroom

Our water is all natural from the rainwater tank. The pressure and supply is excellent.

Outdoor Areas

Apart from very large decks all around the house and pool, there is a terrace with large modern barbecue. We have large outdoor tables on the front and rear decks as well as the pool deck.

The garden is planted with rare and exotic plants and large established trees as well as a substantial orchard.

Wow! This is such a gorgeous house in a truly wonderful setting. Kangaroos and parrots a plenty which we loved. Louise is a fantastic host and had thought of all our needs. We have travelled a lot internationally and this compares with some of the very best.

What a fabulous stay at this property! Louise is a wonderful host, the house is very comfortable and warm with all amenities well provided. The view is breathtaking and walks around the property are spectacular with much to explore and abundant wildlife and bird life. Not to mention two gorgeous and gentle Golden Retrievers who were our guides.

Kangaroo Manor is like walking into a picture perfect landscape where you can let your mind be as vast as the sky, where you can be still, observe and appreciate nature in its finest form.

Stunning BB, couldn't recommend more! Pool was huge and a lovely temperature. Dogs being left on the premises were a lovely touch. Plenty of kangaroos around the property. Delicious cheese board left for us on arrival. Thanks for sharing it with us we will be back.
